Peter Harding (11 May 1919 – 24 January 2006) was an RAF reconnaissance pilot, a World War II POW, and participant in The Great Escape from Stalag Luft III. He significantly influenced student life at the Royal School of Mines from 1946 until his death. Born in 1919 and educated at Dulwich College, he studied Metallurgy at the Royal School of Mines. In 1939, he joined the University of London Air Squadron and enlisted in the RAF to fly combat aircraft, where he flew missions until he was captured after a forced bail-out in 1941.
