Peter Diamand, CBE, was a notable arts administrator and director of the Edinburgh International Festival from 1965 to 1978. Born in Berlin in 1913, he fled to Amsterdam during the rise of Nazism due to his Jewish heritage. He faced significant adversity, including time in a Dutch concentration camp. Diamand was married twice, first to pianist Maria Curcio and later to American violinist Sylvia Rosenberg. He received several honors for his contributions to the arts, including being made an honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1972.
