Dr. Peter Boschung was a Swiss doctor and cultural advocate born in Schmitte on December 29, 1912. He studied medicine at the Universities of Freiburg and Bern, earning his doctorate in 1942. Active in promoting the Swiss German language and culture, he founded the Swiss German Working Community in 1959 and was a key figure in establishing language rights in the canton of Fribourg. He received an honorary doctorate in 1989 and played a crucial role in the recognition of Swiss German in the cantonal constitution in 1990. He passed away on January 19, 1999.
