Pernessa C. Seele, born on October 15, 1954, is an American immunologist and interfaith public health activist. She founded and leads Balm in Gilead, Inc., which supports people affected by AIDS and works on HIV prevention. In 1989, she initiated the Harlem Week of Prayer, engaging 50 religious entities, which evolved into an annual event mobilizing the faith community against the AIDS crisis. Her organization has expanded to include over ten thousand churches in the U.S., Africa, and the Caribbean, addressing public health issues through faith-based initiatives.
