Per Tønder was a notable Norwegian priest and politician affiliated with the Labour Party. Born in Sjøvegan, Troms, on April 6, 1911, he represented Troms county as a deputy in the Norwegian Parliament during the 1950s and 1960s. Tønder notably served as the mayor of Salangen Municipality for two decades from 1964 to 1984, and held the position of vicar for 25 years starting in 1957. He received the King's Medal of Merit in gold, and celebrated his 101st birthday shortly before his death on July 18, 2015.
