Pavlo Maksimovich Fedchenko was a Ukrainian literary scholar and expert on Taras Shevchenko, born on July 12, 1920, in the village of Nosachiv, today in the Smila Raion of Cherkasy Oblast. He earned the degree of Doctor of Philological Sciences in 1968 and served as a professor. Fedchenko was head of the culture department at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine from 1968 to 1973 and was a candidate member of its Central Committee from 1971 to 1976. He was also a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR in its 8th convocation.
