Pavel Popovich was a Soviet-Ukrainian cosmonaut, born on October 5, 1930, in Ozin, Kyiv Oblast, USSR. He was the fourth Soviet cosmonaut to reach space. Initially serving in the Soviet Air Force, he was selected for the Soyuz 2 mission in 1968 after the death of astronaut Vladimir Komarov, and in 1974 for the Soyuz 14 mission where he earned the title of Golden Eagle. He later worked in technical research until his passing on September 29, 2009, in Gorozov, Crimea, Ukraine.
