He became a Hero of Socialist Labor in 1980 and played a pivotal role in naval engineering during his career. Kotov contributed significantly during the Great Patriotic War and later oversaw the development of Soviet nuclear submarines. He held several high-ranking positions within the Soviet Navy's shipbuilding administration and was noted for his involvement in major naval projects, including heavy nuclear missile cruisers. He passed away in 2007 and is remembered for his contributions to naval defense.
