Paul Smits is a Dutch businessman, born on December 14, 1946, in Schiedam. He served as chairman of the executive board of KPN and was previously president of AVRO. After studying electrical engineering at Delft University of Technology, he began his career at PTT and later became chairman of Unisource. He became KPN's chairman in 2000, facing both successes, like the alliance with NTT DoCoMo, and failures, including failed mergers. After leaving KPN, he held various positions in telecommunications and charity organizations, becoming a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2011.
