He later lived in Perpignan and studied at the Institution Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, where he earned his high school diploma in 1929. Pugnaud began writing articles for various magazines, including Le Coq Catalan, and moved to Paris to pursue a literature degree at the University of Paris-Sorbonne.
