Paul Ninas (1903-1964) was an influential American artist born in Leeton, Missouri. Initially studying engineering, he was inspired to become a painter after traveling in the Middle East and North Africa. Ninas studied in Vienna and Paris, where he was influenced by fauvism and cubism. Settling in New Orleans in 1932 after his father's death, he became an active member of the art community, recognized as the 'dean of modern art' in the area for integrating modern European styles into Southern themes, notably through his unique Cubist interpretations.
