Paul Gerhardt Birkeland was a Norwegian theologian known for his role as the priest in Lyngdal. Born on December 18, 1918, he graduated as cand.theol. in 1957 and served in various positions, including vicar in Agder and bishop. He gained attention in 2001 for his controversial remarks about Crown Prince Haakon's marriage choice. After retirement, he wrote a song for Lyngdal and authored a children’s book on beekeeping. He was also honored with a street named after him in 2005.
