Paul-Gerhard Hörschelmann was a Baltic German clergyman born in Estonia. He studied theology at the universities of Tübingen, Heidelberg and Kiel and was ordained as a pastor on May 8, 1960. He worked as a pastor in Flintbek and later as a social pastor and representative for men's work in the Northern Elbe Evangelical Lutheran Church. From 1972, he was the chairman of the men's work of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and later head of research in Sönnebüll near Bredstedt. He was also the rector of the Institute of Theology from 1996 to 1998. Hörschelmann's father, Gotthard Hörschelmann, was a pastor at the German Redeemer Church in Nõmme, and his paternal grandfather, Paul Alexander Robert Hörschelmann, was a pastor at the Vändra and Tallinn Oleviste churches. His maternal grandfather was Konstantin Thomson, a pastor at the Hageri church. His brother, Werner Hörschelmann, was also a clergyman.
