Paul John Flory (June 19, 1910 – September 9, 1985) was an American chemist awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1974. He was known for his contributions to the field of polymers. Flory graduated from Algin High School in 1927 and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Manchester in 1931, followed by a Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1934. He joined Stanford University in 1961 and taught there until his retirement in 1975. After retirement, he became a consultant for IBM. Flory passed away in 1985 in California due to a heart attack.
