Patxi Altuna Bengoechea was a Spanish Jesuit priest, philologist, linguist, and academic born in Azpeitia on September 8, 1927. He was an expert in the methodology of teaching the Basque language (euskera). Altuna made significant contributions to the field of linguistics and played a vital role in promoting the Basque language and culture. He passed away on January 20, 2006, in the Sanctuary of Loyola.
