Patrick Bryan Knight, known as 'Dead Man Laughing' (January 12, 1968 - June 26, 2007), was a death row inmate in Texas who was convicted of murdering two people at the age of 23. He spent over a third of his life on death row, gaining public attention when he announced a contest for his last words as a joke. Despite criticism for insensitivity towards the victims' families, he claimed he wanted to avoid being rude. Ultimately, on the day of his execution, he declined to tell a joke, instead stating that death would set him free, calling it the best joke.
