Palle Birkelund (1912-2012) was a prominent Danish librarian and the chief librarian of the Royal Library. He was born in Nimtofte and became a student at Aarhus Cathedral School. He worked at the State Library in Aarhus and the University Library in Copenhagen, ultimately earning a law degree in 1944. He led the Royal Library from 1952 until his retirement in 1982, during which he implemented several progressive initiatives in library organization. He was also an active researcher and writer specializing in library history, contributing to various publications.
