Otto Völzing was a German geologist and archaeologist born on August 6, 1910, in Groß-Umstadt and died on April 28, 2001, in Neunkirchen (Saar). He is renowned for his excavations at the Hohlenstein-Stadel in the Lonetal, where in 1939 he discovered ivory fragments that were later assembled into the Lion Man statuette, regarded as one of the oldest artworks in human history.
