Otto Elsner (February 17, 1921 - May 23, 1994) was a Polish-born Israeli chemist associated with the Shenkar College in Ramat Gan. He pioneered the creation of the blue thread for tzitzit from the murex snail, a noteworthy achievement facilitated by Rabbi Eliahu Tavger from Jerusalem. His significant discovery was a breakthrough in producing the biblical blue dye from snails using UV exposure derived from sunlight, addressing a long-standing mystery previously researched by Rabbi Herzog.
