Osborne 'Ossie' McKenzie Fraser was a notable Nova Scotian politician born on November 7, 1923, in Edwardsville. He worked as a steel worker for Sydney Steel Corporation for 35 years and began his political career by getting elected to the Cape Breton County Council in 1964. Fraser entered provincial politics, winning a seat in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in a 1976 byelection and was subsequently re-elected twice. He was a veteran of World War II and served until his unexpected death on October 29, 1982.
