He is known for works like 'Liten flicka ilar till veterinär med skadskjuten kråka,' which inspired a song by Mikael Wiehe. Cleve's works can be found in museums such as Göteborgs konstmuseum and Teckningsmuseet in Laholm. He grew up in Landskrona and later moved to Roslagen in Uppland during the 1930s.
