Orvar Swenson was a prominent Swedish-born American pediatric surgeon known for his groundbreaking work in treating Hirschsprung's disease. He performed the first pull-through operation for megacolon in 1948, significantly advancing surgical techniques for the disease. Swenson served as an assistant professor of pediatric surgery at Harvard and later became surgeon-in-chief at Boston's Floating Hospital, where he conducted his pioneering research. He was also president of the American Pediatric Surgical Association and authored a well-regarded textbook in the field.
