Oļģerts Ābelīte was a Latvian graphic artist born on February 26, 1909, in Riga, known particularly for his book illustrations. He illustrated over 40 books, including works by authors like Jānis Ezeriņš, Ilona Leimane, Miguel de Cervantes, and Rainis. His father was a landscape painter at the German theatre in Riga. After leaving school in the penultimate class, he worked in an advertising studio. He took private lessons from artist Uga Skulme and moved to Ikšķile in 1940, where he lived until his death on August 29, 1972.
