Ólavur Michelsen (1933-1978) was a prominent Faroese teacher, journalist, and author. Born in Øravík, he took his teaching degree in 1958 and taught at various schools. He served as editor for the newspaper '14. september' and was politically active within the Tjóðveldisflokkur and the neighborhood council. Michelsen was also a poet and wrote several notable works, including 'Lovorð' and 'Kirkjusøga'. He co-founded the Rithøvundafelag Føroya with notable figures in Faroese literature. His illustrated children's book won a Nordic children's book award in 1991.
