Alfred Norval Mitchell, OBE, born on December 18, 1906, served in India from 1930 to 1947, first with the Indian Civil Service and then transferring to the Indian Political Service in 1934. He received an OBE for his role as Political Agent for the Orissa States Agency. He later became Chief Secretary of the North-West Frontier Province and held positions such as Clerk to the Legislative Council of Northern Rhodesia and Secretary of the University of St Andrews. His writings include a biography of Sir George Cunningham and an autobiography published posthumously in 2006. He passed away in 1988.
