Norman Edouard Hartweg (1904-1964) was a distinguished American herpetologist, noted for his role as Curator of Herpetology at the University of Michigan's Museum of Zoology and president of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists. He specialized in turtle taxonomy and distribution, with a subspecies named in his honor. Hartweg described various new species, including the Big Bend slider and the Oaxacan patchnose snake. His scientific pursuits also led to the discovery of a murder victim in 1932, an unsolved case.
