Norio Akasaka (born May 23, 1953) is a Japanese folklorist and a professor at Gakushuin University. He is known for advocating 'Tohoku Studies' and has served as the former director of the Fukushima Museum. Akasaka first emerged in academic circles with his work 'Introduction to Alien Theories' in 1986, which broadened discussions on Japanese thought before focusing on Tohoku culture. His published works include 'Tohoku as Method' (2007), 'The Philosophy of Tarō Okamoto' (2010), and 'Godzilla and Nausicaä' (2014). He is a member of the Japan Writers' Association.
