He achieved the rank of sekiwake in his career and competed in the top makuuchi division from 1950 to 1962, earning recognition for defeating yokozuna with ten gold stars. After retiring from wrestling, he became an elder of the Japan Sumo Association and worked as a coach at Tatsunami stable until his retirement in 1988. Post-retirement, he served as a sumo TV commentator, contributing to the sport's promotion and education.
