Nittatsu I was a Japanese Buddhist monk born on April 15, 1902, in Tokyo and passed away on June 22, 1979, in Fujinomiya. Also known as Nittatsu Hosoi, he served as the 66th high priest of Nichiren Shōshū and was the abbot of the Taiseki-ji temple in Shizuoka. He previously was the prior of Honden-ji in Osaka and Jōzai-ji in Tokyo. Notably, he excommunicated the Kenshōkai and criticized the Sōka Gakkai for deviating from religious orthodoxy during his leadership.
