Ni Zhen (18 July 1938 – 22 December 2022) was a prominent Chinese screenwriter and professor at Beijing Film University. He is best known for his screenplay for the critically acclaimed 1991 film 'Raise the Red Lantern', which faced temporary bans in China despite being approved by censors. The film is celebrated as one of the greatest Chinese films. Ni Zhen passed away on 22 December 2022, at the age of 84.
