Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut who became the first person to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969. He flew to the moon aboard Apollo 11 with Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 2 hours and 36 minutes on the lunar surface, taking photos, planting the American flag, and conducting scientific experiments. Notably, Armstrong uttered the iconic phrase, 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’ as he stepped onto the moon. After their historic mission, Armstrong and his crewmates were celebrated as heroes.
