Necmiye Alpay is a Turkish linguist born on November 23, 1946, in Sindirgi. She graduated from the Political Science Faculty of Ankara University in 1969 and obtained her Ph.D. from Paris Nanterre University in international economics. Alpay was detained for three years following a coup attempt while on faculty at Ankara University. After her release, she engaged in oral translation and contributed to several journals. She taught Turkish and creative writing at Yeditepe University and wrote columns for various newspapers, including Radikal.
