Naing Win Swe (1940–1995) was a notable Burmese writer and poet known for his revolutionary themes. After the 8888 Uprising failed, he fled Burma and was ultimately killed in 1995 by the Burmese Army on the Thai border. A tragic legend surrounds his death, where comrades covered his body with wildflowers. His most famous work, 'Ma Thein Shin Si Pote Pay Bar', is a semi-autobiographical novel capturing a love story in the context of military-socialist repression in 1960s Burma. His poem 'Willow Tree' is also recognized internationally.
