Myra Freeman is a Canadian educator and philanthropist, born on May 17, 1949. She served as the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, becoming the first woman to hold the position. Born Myra Ava Holtman in Saint John, New Brunswick, she graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. She began teaching in Halifax in 1971 and was appointed Lieutenant Governor in 2000, serving until September 7, 2006. Freeman has three children with her husband Larry and was awarded the Order of Canada in July 2008.
