Munetaka Iida was a Japanese ballet dancer and instructor, born on October 22, 1957, and passed away on May 7, 2022. He joined the Tchaikovsky Memorial Tokyo Ballet in 1980, becoming one of its leading dancers and performing a wide repertoire from classical to contemporary ballet. Notably, he was the first performer of the role 'Sadakurō' in 'The Kabuki', created by choreographer Maurice Béjart inspired by the character. Iida also contributed to the training of younger generations and served as the artistic director of the Tokyo Ballet starting in 2004.
