Muhammad Said al-Jamal ar-Rifa'i, also known as Abu Mahmoud, was a prominent Palestinian Muslim scholar and the former Imam and preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Born on September 8, 1935, in Tulkarm, he served as the primary teacher and Qur'an reciter at the mosque until his death on November 11, 2015, in San Francisco. Al-Rifa'i was the head of the Islamic Sufi Council in Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, and played significant roles as a deputy mufti of Palestine and the mufti of Jerusalem. He was a notable figure in contemporary Sufism, with works in Arabic and English.
