Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (March 1, 1935 - April 9, 1980) was a prominent Iraqi Shia religious authority, thinker, and Islamic philosopher of Lebanese descent. He is known as one of the key founders of the Islamic Dawa Party and a theorist of its ideas. Al-Sadr authored significant works in Shia Islamic political thought. He was executed by the previous regime in 1980 under President Saddam Hussein, accused of espionage and collaboration with Iran.
