Motoaki Kōno (born July 20, 1943) is a prominent Japanese art historian known for his expertise in early modern art, particularly in Rinpa school studies. He is the former director of the Seikado Bunko Art Museum and an emeritus professor at the University of Tokyo. Kōno also serves as the honorary director of the Akita Museum of Modern Art and is a board member at the Idemitsu Museum of Arts. He was previously the editor-in-chief of the art journal Kokka and has held the position of president at Nihonmatsu Gakuin's Kyoto University of Art and Design.
