Morio Kasai (September 29, 1922 - December 8, 2008) was a prominent Japanese surgeon specializing in pediatric surgery. He developed the Kasai procedure, a surgical technique for treating a congenital condition known as biliary atresia. Despite the challenges of his time, he made significant contributions to the field, including studies on peritonitis in infants, esophageal cancer, and pediatric liver cancer. He spent most of his career at Tohoku University, where he chaired the Second Surgery Department until 1993, and served as director of Tohoku Hospital before his health declined due to a stroke in 1999.
