He graduated from the sociology department of Ryukoku University and worked as a journalist for the Kyoto News, where he faced the Red Purge. Later, he served as an associate professor at Heian Jogakuin University and a professor in the economics department at Ryukoku University, focusing on the history of Pure Land Buddhism.
