Moktar Ould Daddah (December 25, 1924 - October 14, 2003) was a Mauritanian politician and lawyer, serving as the first president of Mauritania after its independence from France in 1960. He is considered one of the founders of the Mauritanian state and a significant figure in its early development. Ould Daddah was ousted by the military in a coup in July 1978 after nearly two decades in power, largely due to his involvement in the Western Sahara War, which led to substantial losses and dissent among the military.
