Mochifumi Nangō (July 1, 1906 - July 18, 1938) was a notable officer and ace fighter pilot in the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Second Sino-Japanese War. He is credited with destroying eight enemy aircraft. Graduating from the Naval Academy in 1927, he trained as a pilot in 1932. After serving on the aircraft carrier Akagi and a two-year post in London, he returned to lead air operations at the 15th Air Group. He died in battle during a collision with an enemy aircraft, becoming a celebrated figure in Japanese military history.
