Ruiz de Gauna has been a municipal councilor in the City Council of Vitoria since 2015 and has served as a member of the Basque Parliament since 2016. However, in February 2021, she resigned from her public positions after violating EH Bildu's ethical code connected to an identity impersonation case being investigated by the Ertzaintza.
