Mildred Ellen Orton (1911–2010) was an influential American businesswoman and author, co-founding the Vermont Country Store with her husband in 1946. Born on a farm in Vermont, she emphasized whole grains in her cooking and authored the cookbook 'Cooking with Wholegrains.' Orton managed the store until her retirement in 1978 and contributed significantly to popularizing natural food products. Survived by her family, she left a lasting legacy in Vermont's local commerce. Her husband, Vrest, passed away in 1986.
