Mikio Shimoda was a Japanese political scientist born on March 30, 1920, in Tokyo. He graduated from Waseda University in 1947 and served as an associate professor at Meijo University and later as a professor at Waseda University. He retired in 1989 and was honored as a professor emeritus. In 1980, he received the Marco Polo Award for his work on the spread of Christianity in Rome. He was awarded the Third Class Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1995 and is buried in Tama Reien.
