Migel Angel Apalategi Aierbe, known as Apala, is a former member of the Basque terrorist group ETA born on April 16, 1955, in Ataun. He led special commands within ETA and preferred armed struggle over political negotiations, which caused division within the group. Apalategi was linked to the murder of Javier Ybarra and later, in the 1980s, participated in activities supporting the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. After the Sandinistas lost power in the 1990s, he is reportedly living in Cuba.
