Michael Townley is a former Australian politician and pharmacist who served as a Senator for Tasmania from 1971 to 1987. Born in Hobart, he initially operated pharmacies and became a media figure before entering politics. A member of the Liberal Party, he clashed with its executive and was elected as an independent during the 1970 Senate election. He later joined the parliamentary Liberals, participating in significant events like the 1975 constitutional crisis, before leaving the party and retiring from the Senate in 1987.
