Michael John Moorcock, born on December 18, 1939, is an English writer and musician primarily known for his work in science fiction, as well as literary novels. He is famous for creating the character Elric of Melnibone, which significantly influenced fantasy literature in the 1960s and 1970s. Moorcock served as the editor of the British science fiction magazine New Worlds from May 1964 to March 1971 and again from 1976 to 1996, shaping the genre in the UK and indirectly in the US, and contributing to the emergence of cyberpunk. He is also a successful musician.
