Michael Kraus, born on September 26, 1955, in Gladbeck, is a former German swimmer and sports official. He rose to prominence in the swimming world during the 1975 World Championships, where he secured sixth place in the 200-meter butterfly and won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay. Kraus also earned a bronze medal in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and became the European Champion in the 200-meter butterfly in 1977. He was a dominant swimmer in national competitions, winning the 200-meter butterfly seven times from 1974 to 1980 and was later a vice president of the DTU.
