He emigrated to the United States in 1922, completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia University in 1932, and furthered his education under Harold Hotelling until 1937. His career included roles in various governmental statistical bureaus, including the USDA and the Census Bureau, and he joined the RAND Corporation in 1947. Girshick became a professor at Stanford University in 1948, specializing in sequential analysis and decision theory until his death in 1955.
